Campo (Motor Transport Museum) and Pine Creek - Dec 5, 2009
Fred, James and I did some exploring around the backcountry of east San Diego County. Our first stop was the Motor Transport Museum in Campo, on Hwy 94 just east of Buckman Springs Road. Just down the road from the MTM we found the little shrine made by Italian prisoners of war during WW II, at the site of the former Camp Lockett. From there we headed back west a bit, then north on PIne Creek Road, then a portion of unpaved Deer Park Road, and finally over a little but paved shelf road that goes through the Laguna Mountains and connects to Sunrise Highway. While we were exploring one of the side trails off of Deer Park we a small patch of snow, just enough for Fred and James to make a snowman. Later, there was lots more snow along the road up on Sunrise Highway.
